Profile:
Melanie Barnett serves as Executive Administrator for the Police Jury Association of Louisiana. She is responsible for assisting the Executive Director on the day-to-day operations of the office. She is also the coordinator of the PJAL Annual Convention, quarterly Executive Board meetings, PJAL Legislative Day, and Newly Elected Officials Orientation. Other duties include organizing activities during the NACo Annual Convention and Legislative Conference, participating in the statewide region meetings, providing support for the PGRMA programs, and assisting the lobbying staff during the Legislative Session.

Before joining the Police Jury Association, Melanie worked as the Administrative Assistant to former Commissioner Bob Odom and present Commissioner Mike Strain. She retired with 34 years of service. During her tenure, she also served as the Director of the Hurricane Disaster Recovery Programs with loans and grants benefiting the farmers, ranchers, and fishermen of our state. For over 20 years she was a board member of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry’s Credit Union.

Melanie attended Louisiana State University. She is married to Brent Barnett, and they have two grown children and seven grandchildren.
