The Louisiana Parish Attorneys Association (“LPAA”) is open to licensed attorneys in good standing who represent parish governing bodies. The LPAA is affiliated with the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, Inc. (“PJAL”). The LPAA is designed to serve as a resource for parish attorneys around the state by creating a network of colleagues with which to share information and request assistance. The LPAA will provide its members with information regarding recent developments in law affecting parish governing bodies.


LPAA Newsletter

The LPAA has begun publishing a newsletter entitled the "Boot Barristers Bulletin." Copies are available below to members who are logged in.


Join the LPAA

Any attorney who represents parish governing bodies is eligible to become a member of the LPAA.

Go to https://www.lpgov.org/general/pick_username.asp and create a profile on the Police Jury Association’s membership page using the registration information (social profile information is unnecessary). There is no cost to register as a member. In the “Parish Government Title” section, please click “Parish Attorney.” Under the “Groups” tab, please Request an Invite from the Louisiana Parish Attorneys Association.


PJAL Annual Convention CLE Registration

The LPAA will hold a five-hour CLE on Thursday, February 13, 2025 during the PJAL Annual Convention, scheduled for Wednesday, February 12th through Friday, February 14th at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. A light breakfast and a lunch will be provided. The cost will be $50.

SAVE THE DATE: September 2025 two-day CLE sponsored by the PJAL and the LDAA

The Police Jury Association of Louisiana and the Louisiana District Attorneys Association are pleased to announce a collaborative, two-day CLE event that is being scheduled for the month of September 2025 in Rapides Parish. An array of thought-provoking topics will be on the docket, with a particular focus on the unique legal issues faced by parish governing bodies. Mark your calendar - details will emerge shortly.

A recent 2024 state appellate court decision vitiates the police power of Parishes and municipalities to enforce its subdivision ordinance by ordering the issuance of a building permit on property that was improperly subdivided more than five years ago.
