LA Citizen's Insurance Rebates

The PJAL has received information on how parishes and other public entities that do not file income tax returns can obtain a rebate of the Citizen's Insurance assessments.  Below is an excerpt of information from Max Zimmer, with Casualty Insurance Consultants, one of the people that helps the PJAL serve the interests of parish government.

At a meeting with Clarissa Preston, Deputy Commissioner Louisiana Department of Insurance, Office of Property and Casualty, I was told the Louisiana Department of Revenue has made provision for “Louisiana Public Entities”, NOT REQUIRED TO FILE A LOUISIANA CORPORATE INCOME TAX RETURN, to request a refund. In a discussion with the Department of Revenue this morning, I confirmed Louisiana Public Entities that have paid Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation Assessments prior to January 1st, 2007, can request a refund by filing form R-620INS (1/07).

I will also keep you informed of the efforts afoot to introduce legislation to exempt public entity property policies from future assessments. If there is a successful effort to get a bill sponsored in the next session, I might need to get back with you to ask you to contact your local senators and representatives for backing.

As always, thanks for your help in providing the local public entity insureds with the excellent service they deserve.
