2012 Region 8 Meeting - 11/1/2012

Region VIII Meeting:

New President Elected

Elected and appointed officials from seven parishes gathered on Thursday, November 1, 2012, for a meeting at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, LA. Avoyelles Parish hosted the meeting for members of the Police Jury Association. In addition to Avoyelles Parish, Region VIII includes Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Rapides, Vernon and Winn.

Doris Leeper of Winn Parish was elected Region VIII President for the upcoming year, along with Rapides as Region VIII Vice President. In addition, Winn's Karen Tyler was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Joe Bishop of Rapides Parish was re-elected to serve as Region VIII's State Executive Board Member.

Current Region VIII President George M. Romano from Avoyelles Parish presided over the meeting.District 28's State Representative Robert Johnson was the guest speaker for the evening. Rep. Johnson encouraged members to keep working hard for their communities and gave an informative overview of the proposed constitutional amendments that appear on the upcoming ballot. Rep. Johnson then led an extensive question and answer session. PJAL President Mike McLeod of Beauregard Parish also addressed the crowd. He thanked those in attendance for their continued support to the Police Jury Association and their constituents. He also commended Rep. Johnson for being so candid in his answers and his genuine willingness to hear their concerns and questions. In addition, Police Jury Association Executive Director Roland Dartez gave a report of the PJAL's many accomplishments from the 2012 Legislative session and led the business portion of the meeting. After the business meeting's conclusion, Avoyelles Parish made a presentation to Romano in honor of his service to his parish as Avoyelles Parish Police Jury President. Romano is not running for re-election on Tuesday.
