Police Jury Association of Louisiana Regions I & II Meeting:

New President Elected

Elected and appointed parish officials from nine parishes gathered on Thursday, August 16, 2007, for a meeting at the Ormond Plantation Manor Home in Destrehan.  St. Charles Parish hosted the meeting for members of the Police Jury Association in southeast Louisiana which includes the parishes of Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist and Terrebonne.

Cynthia Willard-Lewis of Orleans was elected Regions I & II President.  John Young, Jefferson, was chosen Region II Executive Board Member.  Regions I & II also elected members to the Police Jury Association of Louisiana Standing Committees.  In addition, the officials prepared the groundwork for future legislation and provided a forum for the discussion of issues of significance to local governments.  Regions I & II adopted four pre-filed resolutions and three resolutions offered from the floor.  These resolutions will be sent to the full Police Jury Association of Louisiana for consideration at its annual convention in February of 2008 to be held in Alexandria.  Also at the meeting, Orleans parish was named host parish for next year’s Regions I & II meeting.

Regions I & II President Albert D. Laque presided over the meeting.  Reverend D. B. Mollaire gave the invocation followed by Brian A. Fabre leading the Pledge of Allegiance.  Richard Billings, Police Jury Association President from Rapides Parish, welcomed those in attendance of the meeting and offered his gratitude.  Clyde Ray Webber, Jr. was the guest speaker.  His humorous speech motivated officials and guests to not be lazy in life.  Roland Dartez, Executive Director of the Police Jury Association, thanked officials and special guests for a great year in the legislature and their continued support and involvement in the Police Jury Association.
