Police Jury Association of Louisiana Region
VIII Meeting:
New President Elected
Elected
and appointed officials from eight parishes gathered on September 27, 2007, for
a meeting at the First Baptist Church in Jena, LA. LaSalle parish hosted the
meeting for members of the Police Jury Association. In addition to LaSalle Parish, Region VIII
includes Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, Rapides, Vernon and Winn.
Sam
Fulton of Vernon Parish was elected Region VIII President for the upcoming
year. Also from Vernon Parish, Rhonda
Plummer and Melvin Haymon were elected
Secretary-Treasurer and Executive Board Member.
Haymon was already serving a previous board
member’s unexpired term as Executive Board Member but was elected to serve a
full term at the meeting. Doris Leeper and Ezra Reed were elected to fill vacancies on the
PJAL Emergency Preparedness and Highway Committees.
Region
VIII Wayne Richardson presided over the meeting. Bro. Dominick DiCarlo gave the invocation followed by Ben Reid of LaSalle
Parish with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Richard Billings, Police Jury Association President from Rapides Parish,
addressed those in attendance of the meeting.
He spoke about his experience as Police Jury President and wished those
running in an election good luck. The
guest speakers were State Representatives Billy Chandler and Bryant
Hammett. Roland Dartez,
Executive Director of the Police Jury Association, thanked officials and
special guests for a great year in the legislature and for their continued
support and involvement. He also
stressed the importance of local government involvement in the
legislature.
