Major Coleman was elected to the Police Jury Association of Louisiana’s (PJAL) Executive Board as Member-At-Large in 2012. Major is a native of St. Helena Parish and a member of the 1974 Graduating Class of Woodland High School. While attending high school, he studied Electronic Technology for two (2) years at the Louisiana Technical College in Greensburg, Louisiana. After high school, Major earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

While attending Southern, Major participated in the Cooperative Education Student Program working in the Aircraft Industry. This program allowed him to work as an Associate Engineer for General Dynamics Aircraft Division in Fort Worth, Texas, during his sophomore, junior and senior years.

After graduating from college, Major worked over twenty-five (25) years as a member of various engineering design teams in the aircraft industries around the country. The first project he worked on during this period was the F-16 Combat Fighter Program at General Dynamics. Major moved back to St. Helena, his native parish, in 2002 to pursue an entrepreneurial endeavor, which included an art gallery and restaurant combination. As an inspiring entrepreneur, it allowed him the time and opportunity to volunteer some much needed time with the local school system and local government. Having an engineering background, Major was recruited in 2005 by Jackson Services, LLC, a small New Orleans based petroleum engineering company as a Project Engineering Manager, which he remained until 2007. He also served as Vice President and President of Region 6 PJAL. In 2015, he was re-elected to his 3rd term as police juror representing the 5th district of the parish. Also, Major was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the state Board of Commerce and Industry in 2016.
