Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry

2006 Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program

An allocation of $170,550 has been made available to Louisiana for distribution to eligible applicants on a 50/50 competitive cost-share basis.  The program provides matching funds for building community forestry programs and awareness at the local level.  If you would like an application and/or more information about the program please contact Bonne Stine at 225-925-4500 or email Ms. Stine for an application at bonnie_s@ldaf.state.la.us.

 

Safe Routes To School will give Louisiana $10 m to institute local improvements to make it safe for kids within 2 miles of an elementary or middle school to walk or bike to school.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is pleased to sponsor the Safe Routes to School National Course for state stakeholders

Justice and Public Safety

NEW! Target and Blue – Law Enforcement Grant Program

Application Deadline: May 31, 2006

Grant funding will be awarded to law enforcement agencies to create safe environments through preventing, deterring, and detecting crime.  Funding may be used for equipment, supplies, printing safety literature, or anything to further the goal of creating a safe environment.

Prevention of Methamphetamine Abuse

Eligible applicants are domestic public and private nonprofit entities. For example, State and local governments; federally recognized tribes; State recognized tribes, urban Indian organizations (as defined in P.L. 94-437, as amended); public or private universities and colleges; community- and faith-based organizations; and tribal organizations may apply. The statutory authority for this program prohibits grants to for-profit organizations. No more than one application may be submitted from one organization.

 

Award Information: It is expected that up to $3.3 million will be available to fund 9-11 awards in FY 2006. Annual awards are expected to be from $300,000 to $350,000 per year in total costs (direct and indirect) for up to 3 years.  Proposed budgets cannot exceed $350,000 in any year of the proposed project. Annual continuation awards will depend on the availability of funds, grantee progress in meeting project goals and objectives, and timely submission of required data and reports.

Cost sharing is not required in this program, and applications will not be screened out on the basis of cost sharing.

Economic Development Administration Assistance Program

This grant will fund projects in four categories including local technical assistance and planning assistance to regional development districts and to public works investments. Geographic information system (GIS) technology is central to economic development, assisting in planning for development, marketing sites, and programs.

 

Eligibility: Municipalities, states, or economic or infrastructure development agencies of these local governments; consortia of local governments such as councils of governments; Indian tribes; regional economic development district organizations; and institutions of higher education or consortia of higher education institutions are all eligible applicants. Private or public not-for-profit organizations are eligible if acting in association with a municipality or other political subdivision of a state.

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and NOAA Announces Marine Debris Grant Program

American Forests’ Offers Hurricane Katrina Replanting Grants 

Application Deadline:  July 1, 2006

The national conservation group American Forests has announced the availability of grants to replant native Gulf Coast trees whose shade and other benefits are vital to restoring livability after Hurricane Katrina. The program, Katrina ReLeaf, is part of American Forests’ action and education campaign, Global ReLeaf, which has supported the planting of more than 23 million trees worldwide since 1990. The Global ReLeaf program provides private dollars to support local tree planting efforts and help match other funding sources.    

 

Grant awards will be announced September 1, 2006, after review by the Katrina ReLeaf Fund Advisory Committee, made up of corporate, federal and state agency, and non-profit representatives. Lead Outreach Program

The purpose is to 1. Raise public awareness of childhood lead poisoning prevention and proper lead hazard identification and control methods for at risk communities and children, especially underserved populations and minorities; 2.
