NEW! Safe Routes To School will give Louisiana $10 m to institute local improvements to make it safe for kids within 2 miles of an elementary or middle school to walk or bike to school.

This grant will fund projects in four categories including local technical assistance and planning assistance to regional development districts and to public works investments. Geographic information system (GIS) technology is central to economic development, assisting in planning for development, marketing sites, and programs.

 

Eligibility: Municipalities, states, or economic or infrastructure development agencies of these local governments; consortia of local governments such as councils of governments; Indian tribes; regional economic development district organizations; and institutions of higher education or consortia of higher education institutions are all eligible applicants. Summary: Notice of Request for Proposals for Projects to be Funded from the Wetland Program Development Grants - Regions Allocation (CFDA 66.461 - Wetland Program Development Grants). - Wetland Program Development Grants (WPDGs) provide eligible applicants an opportunity to conduct projects that promote the coordination and acceleration of research, investigations, experiments, training, demonstrations, surveys, and studies relating to the causes, effects, extent, prevention, reduction, and elimination of water pollution. While WPDGs can continue to be used by recipients to build and refine any element of a comprehensive wetland program, proposals that address one or more of the national and regional priorities may increase their chances of being selected for award (see Section V). States, Tribes, local government agencies, and intertribal consortia are eligible to apply under this announcement. Projects must occur within the states of EPA Region 6 specifically Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. In the case of inter-jurisdictional watershed projects, they must be primarily implemented in EPA Region 6.

NEW! American Forests’ Offers Hurricane Katrina Replanting Grants 

Application Deadline:  July 1, 2006

The national conservation group American Forests has announced the availability of grants to replant native Gulf Coast trees whose shade and other benefits are vital to restoring livability after Hurricane Katrina. The program, Katrina ReLeaf, is part of American Forests’ action and education campaign, Global ReLeaf, which has supported the planting of more than 23 million trees worldwide since 1990. The Global ReLeaf program provides private dollars to support local tree planting efforts and help match other funding sources.    

 

Grant awards will be announced September 1, 2006, after review by the Katrina ReLeaf Fund Advisory Committee, made up of corporate, federal and state agency, and non-profit representatives. Prevention of Methamphetamine Abuse

Eligible applicants are domestic public and private nonprofit entities. For example, State and local governments; federally recognized tribes; State recognized tribes, urban Indian organizations (as defined in P.L. 94-437, as amended); public or private universities and colleges; community- and faith-based organizations; and tribal organizations may apply. The statutory authority for this program prohibits grants to for-profit organizations. No more than one application may be submitted from one organization.

 

Award Information: It is expected that up to $3.3 million will be available to fund 9-11 awards in FY 2006. Annual awards are expected to be from $300,000 to $350,000 per year in total costs (direct and indirect) for up to 3 years.  Proposed budgets cannot exceed $350,000 in any year of the proposed project. Annual continuation awards will depend on the availability of funds, grantee progress in meeting project goals and objectives, and timely submission of required data and reports.

Cost sharing is not required in this program, and applications will not be screened out on the basis of cost sharing.
