88th Annual Convention
Police Jury Association 88th Annual Convention to be held in Houma, LA, February 23-25, 2012

Houma will become the center of governmental activity February 23-25, 2012, as statewide elected officials, the heads of state agencies and elected officials from every parish gather in Houma, LA. More than 1,000 federal, state and local government officials will gather at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center for the 88th Annual Convention of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana (PJAL).

"Parishes are still facing the difficult task of rebuilding and restoring our state after a number of natural disasters. This convention gives us an opportunity for all leaders to meet and share ideas to best serve the people of Louisiana, said PJAL President Paul Naquin of St. Mary Parish. "Terrebonne parish is proud to welcome all parish officials to Houma and is excited to showcase the Saltwater Fishing Capital of the World, Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet added.

Topics of conversation will range from tourism, emergency preparedness, and the Legislature to criminal justice, highways and community development. Jurors and commissioners will also focus on issues related to the oil and gas industry, coastal activities, retirement, and health care costs. Parish Engineers, Administrators, Attorneys and ethics officials are also planning to discuss related issues.

Friday afternoon committees will feature speeches by elected officials and department secretaries including: AG Buddy Caldwell, State Representative Tim Burns, DEQ Secretary Peggy Hatch, DOTD Secretary Sheri Lebas, GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning and others involved with state government. State Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain and Secretary of State Tom Schedler are also set to appear.
